Implemented on the Apple II, BICODE is a courseware development environment intended for Chinese authors and consisting of the BICODE language, an execution program, and an utility package. Featuring the functions of bilingual text presentation, speech output, and dynamic graphic display, BICODE has proved to be an effective authoring aid suitable for Chinese educators. The construction, the functional features, and the applications of the BICODE system are described in this article.
