Associations and Misconceptions about Drugs among Children and Teachers in Grades Five and Six

Abstract

Product advertising appears to have created a number of misconceptions about over-the-counter and other drugs in the minds of fifth and sixth graders. Adults and teachers also hold certain misconceptions, although to a lesser extent. Young people in particular lack an appropriate understanding framework to which to relate the information they receive about drugs. A few beginning concepts for drug education are outlined.
