A case which presented originally as anorexia nervosa was found on further examination to be a major depressive disorder secondary to iron deficiency. Clinical signs of iron deficiency anemia as a part of the Plummer-Vinson syndrome and severe depression resolved promptly after parenteral iron therapy.
