Abstract
This article discusses alcohol as a drug, not merely a social beverage. It points up its major implications to society at large as well as to the individual, his family, employer, and friends. Also discussed are the advent of new drugs as a significant factor in our society and the need at this time to re-evaluate our experience and attitudes toward our legal drug, alcohol. While mentioning the recent increase in public interest in this area, it points up the need for even greater public support of new programming in the areas of research, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation. Sources of further information and assistance are given.
