Abstract
The sixties found drugs promulgated throughout our social structure and institutions, e.g., school systems. The alarming awareness of drugs infiltrating our elementary schools and affecting the lives of eight and nine year old juveniles has resulted in public rage and condemnation. Society cannot rid itself of drugs by ignoring the problem, nor will public hysteria or haphazard programs provide a panacea for the problem of drugs. If society is to deal effectively with drug abuse among juveniles and young adults, we must understand underlying causal factors (i.e., learned behavior) and construct viable alternatives which are antithetical to drug attitudes.
