Drug abuse theories and causal models can be succintly depicted in path diagrams. Methodological considerations in developing an automatic cheap algorithm for computerized path diagramming are presented, some plotted results are given, and a program is described which produces the plots from an input matrix of path coefficients on a standard line printer. The program accommodates unidirectional and reciprocal causation and represents “significant” causal patterns using a new, easily understood set of conventions.
