Abstract
The author applies the basic principles of social epidemics described in Malcolm Gladwell's The Tipping Point to the problem of increasing the use of educational technology among teachers in public schools. He advises school leaders to master three principles: 1) contagiousness; 2) little causes have big effects; and 3) dramatic change occurs at one crucial point, not gradually. Using the “Law of the Few,” leaders should identify their Connectors, Mavens, and Salesmen to help spread the use of technology. Focus groups should also be used to test ideas before training plans are launched. The author draws from Gladwell's work that contrary to popular thought, resistance to change can be overcome. Dramatic change is possible if leaders learn how to give those whom they lead the right push.
