Abstract
Marshall McLuhan famously said, “The medium is the message.” His point was that the content of a message is less important than the technology used to deliver it. Confronted by an ever-expanding range of media for instruction, many educators may be tempted to adopt this view and focus their efforts primarily on the selection of educational technologies. Yet mounting evidence suggests that how that technology is used is critical to determining its effectiveness as a learning medium. It is therefore fitting that the focus of this issue is on how specific educational technologies can best be used to enhance learning.
