Abstract
This paper reviews the need for computer literacy in education, what the dangers are without it, and why it is a necessary survival skill in the age of artificial intelligence. Instructional computer applications, benefits and achievements are discussed in terms of what has been done and where the art is at this time. Emphasis is placed on its adaptability to serve needs at opposite ends of the learning continuum. The results of the author's three year study in the use of CAI in a program for failure oriented children are described along with some notes on results of several other studies. The status of children in today's society is clarified with statistical evidence to support the need for utilizing newer and more powerful instructional tools.
