Abstract
In a research study conducted in the state of Ohio, it was determined that a rather large percentage of school counselors have found the computer to be a valuable tool in managing clerical tasks and in providing important data for students and staff. Over 75 percent of the counselors responding make use of the computer to aid in clerical tasks required in their jobs. While there has been a virtual explosion of software that has become available for counselors from word processors, data base programs, scheduling programs, career assessment packages, test preparation packages, college admissions packages, and personality inventories, it seems obvious from this survey that counselors in larger and larger numbers are not hesitating to take advantage of the computer to aid in their jobs. It is the assumption of the researcher that use of the computer will in the long run free the counselor to have more time for the important tasks of forming interpersonal relationships vital to successful counseling.
