Abstract
The definition of training device requirements for emerging systems is often difficult, not only because of prime system changes, but also because the operation and maintenance of the systems are not yet well defined or documented. Due to this lack of structure within which to work, the definition of training requirements is often postponed until the prime system is near delivery. A method for defining alternative training approaches is discussed, including the application of new technology and the use/modification of existing training devices. Also addressed is the problem of evaluating the utility of videodisc-based training systems for high-tech military tactical systems.
