Abstract
Since most consumers have insufficient knowledge about licit medications they ingest, this article proposes ways consumers can become better informed by utilizing pharmacists and physicians as drug consultants. Through increased inquiry and assertiveness while discussing their medical regimen with health professionals patients can learn how and when to use their prescribed medication and over-the-counter drugs. Education by and cooperation with health professionals can help patients avoid compliance errors; thereby desired results of patients' medical regimens will more likely be achieved. Numerous suggestions and procedures are listed which if practiced will lead to a more rational use of licit drugs by consumers.
