Abstract
This article examines the use of sex appeal in three pairs of prescription drug advertisements. The paired advertisements span a period of approximately ten years. From this preliminary investigation, it is apparent that sexually-oriented advertisements, which is indicative of advertising in general, sometimes is used with advertising directed toward physicians. Prescription drug advertisements for life-threatening conditions are technical and devoid of sexual themes. For non life-threatening conditions, sexual themes are more frequently used.
