Abstract
This article describes how, by the year 2000, all employees and teachers in the European school system will be offered an opportunity to improve their skills in computing and networking—The European Computer Driving License (ECDL). The examples describe the seven course modules, assessments, and effective teaching, and learning skills of educational technologies. Analysis of the design and implementation underscores the importance of technology training for teacher preparation. The course modules provide insight into which technology skills should take priority in instructional design and suggest curriculum changes needed for the future. The ECDL provides an excellent framework for future instructional design and implementation for teacher preparation within the United States.
