The American Spelling Reform Association was founded over one hundred years ago with the avowed intention of making English spelling more regular and consistent. Their attempts and subsequent attempts at spelling reform have failed. With today's advances in speech synthesis and voice recognition by computer a regularized alphabet would enhance machine reading and writing.
