Rural Societies in the Face of Agrarian Modernisation and Political Mobilisation (1848–1914)
The market, state and nation altered rural societies in Europe between the Revolution of 1848 and the First World War. The articles in this volume point out the options open to rural social groups and the flexible adaptations to these alterations; the articles also underline the multiplicity of political constellations and emphasise the role of the brokers between local societies and the nation or state.
