Abstract
While gender and culture affect everyone, these influences are especially important to understand when a client may have an anxiety or depressive disorder. Ways in which gender and sociocultural diversity can affect individuals' vulnerability to depressive or anxiety disorders, symptom presentation, personal and family response, treatment preferences, and resources for coping are reviewed. Also considered are implications for how social workers in varied settings can best assist clients with these disorders to receive the help they may need.
