Abstract
This article examines the applicability of psychodynamic theories such as self-psychology and object relations theory from transcultural perspectives in working with a Korean American woman from a case analysis. This article addresses the intergenerational and intercultural conflict that this Korean American woman experienced with her children and the psychological pain that had accumulated from her relationship with her husband, influenced by Korean Confucian culture. It demonstrates the effectiveness of psychodynamic approaches for Korean immigrant families based on Korean cultural values as well as the conflict between Western and Asian cultural values that practitioners need to consider in working with diverse ethnic populations.
