Orientalism and colonization have tainted indigenous discourses in the Arab region. This article aims to provide a discussion on the approach to (re)claim the Arab discourse. Historically the proposal was in supporting a unified Arab discourse as a response to colonizing discourses. However, this approach is not appropriate because it eliminates the diversity of ideas, cultures, and realities in the region. This does not pave the way to the use of decolonizing methodology because the region is suffering from colonization as well as political upheaval. To capture the diversity of Arab discourses, it is important to examine the social imaginary as an alternative methodology.
