Abstract
The academic field of bioethics has a strong influence on public policy. Founded in the late 1960s, it is now experiencing growing pains and a conflict between its liberals and conservatives on “culture wars” issues. Renée C. Fox, the Annenberg Professor Emerita of Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania, was working in the field well before the invention of bioethics. In this interview, she looks back on the field she helped define.
