Abstract

The Histochemical Society’s (HCS) application for membership in the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) was accepted by the FASEB Board of Directors at their June 6, 2011 meeting. HCS becomes FASEB’s 24th member society as of July 1, 2011. In accepting the HCS application, FASEB President Joseph C. LaManna, PhD, said, “We are pleased to welcome HCS to the federation. This is a critical time for biomedical research, and we look forward to their contributions to our advocacy agenda.”
The Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology was founded in 1912 to provide members societies with coordinated help disseminating research, founding publications and sponsoring meetings. Today the Federation’s 24 scientific societies comprise over 100,000 researchers worldwide.
FASEB is a leader and recognized authority for scientific policy regarding biological and biomedical researchers. “FASEB is the organization that legislators, federal agencies, and the media turn to for information on policies related to biomedical science and engineering,” said Nancy M. Sawtell, PhD, President of HCS.
HCS will participate in Experimental Biology, FASEB’s annual meeting, as well as contribute to many of FASEB’s committees. “Membership in FASEB will give HCS member’s increased opportunities to meet with their colleagues at Experimental Biology and provide them with a strong voice in Washington,” according to William L. Stahl, PhD., HCS Executive Director.
