Abstract
This paper discusses current and potential uses of group frequencies for purposes other than analysis or the identification of compounds or groups. These include the study of chemical mechanisms, of changes in bond angles, of vibrational coupling, and of the relationship between group frequency shifts and changes in other properties of the bonds. Some suggestions are offered on the structure of liquid water.
