The BeO and Be(OH)2.2H2O samples studied here were found to be amorphous from x-ray examinations kindly conducted by R. J. Butcher. The BeO examined in previous work (Ref. 1) was assumed to be polycrystalline, but this assumption was erroneous.

The thin low-density PE film used here was unusually clear. It is manufactured by Presto-Products, Appleton, WI and is sold by Safeway Corporation, Oakland, CA under the name “Kitchen Craft.” The tightly stretched PE film was held by rubber bands stretched around the rim of the pulley. This film technique obviated compressing the samples.
