Abstract
The advantage and need of computer devices for separating overlapped Raman bands are herein demonstrated. Systems of overlapped bands were analyzed by the DuPont 301 curve resolver. Initial experiments were conducted with mixtures of compounds whose concentrations were adjusted to simulate overlapped bands. Finally, a compound with unresolved peaks was examined. These studies show that some kind of curve separation is essential for many, if not most, Raman analyses that require not only the observation of bands of near degeneracy but also the measurement of meaningful and accurate depolarization ratios.
