The combination of flame atomic fluorescence with a continuum source and flame atomic emission was found to provide a convenient method for analyzing Fe, Cu, Ag, and Mg in jet engine lubricating oils in the parts per million range. Dilution of the oils and oil standards to four times the original volume with carbon tetrachloride was found to be optimum for sample preparation.
