Abstract
The electronic spectra of some toxicological phenothiazine drugs have been studied. The primary experimental results show that the 1La and 1Lb states overlap in phenergan as they do in 9-methyl anthracene. Substituent effect removes the overlap as shown by the spectra of some Phenergan derivatives. All the transitions which were clearly identified were the π → #pI* transitions. No separate n → #pI* transition was identified.
