Total bromine in brines may be determined directly by x-ray fluorescence by measuring the peak-to-background intensity ratio of the bromine K-alpha radiation. The accuracy of the determination is unaffected by wide differences in the specific gravity of the brines. Bromine concentrations of 1 to 1000 ppm may be determined in about one minute with an accuracy comparable to that of usual chemical methods.
