Abstract
A rapid, direct method for the determination of trace metals in food products by emission spectroscopy is described. This procedure permits the simultaneous determination of metals such as Ca, Cu, Fe, P, and Sn in food without time-consuming wet or dry ashing of the samples. It is applicable to fresh as well as canned or processed foods. The food is blended with water and an internal standard to a smooth consistency The sample is then sparked directly using the rotating disc technique. Concentrations from 1 to 1,000 ppm can be determined with good accuracy and reproducibility.
