Abstract

To the members of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists:
My four-year term as Editor-in-Chief of Veterinary Pathology ended in late August. This November issue is the last issue of the journal produced under my supervision. I have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to serve as editor of the Journal and will look back on this experience and what I have learned from it with fond memories. I am proud of the progress the journal has made over the past 4-years. Thanks to my predecessor, Dr. Donna Kusewitt, the journal was launched into an online system of manuscript submission, review, and publication. The journal has now been an online for approximately 4 years. The Allentrack system has greatly increased the efficiency and ease of manuscript tracking and correspondence with authors and reviewers. Through this system manuscripts can be transferred directly to Allen Press if they are accepted for publication. The availability of the journal through Highwire press has markedly increased its accessibility and visibility. We are receiving significantly more manuscript submissions with the on-line system per year (approximately 200-250) than with the paper system (approximately 150).
I wish to express my appreciation and indebtedness to all of the associate editors, members of the editorial board, and to Council, who have answered my requests for assistance. Elizabeth (Buffy) Howerth, the journal liaison to Council, has been strongly supportive. Her consistent efforts to assist us in maintaining the highest possible standards have been essential to its success. Wendy Coe of the Rees group, ACVP executive director, has provided the strong consistent financial and legal foundation necessary for running the journal. I would particularly like to acknowledge our managing editor at Allen Press, Joy Richmond, who has been an excellent, highly organized and cheerful source of support, the entire Allentrack team, and Mark Johnson at Highwire Press.
I am grateful to have had the opportunity to serve as Editor-in-Chief. I have enjoyed watching the journal grow during my 4 year term. On September 1, 2007 Dr. Carl Alden began his term as Editor-in-Chief. I am certain he will do an excellent job and encourage you to give him the same strong support that you have given me.
Best regards,
Eva A. Sartin, D.V.M., Ph.D., A.C.V.P.
