Abstract

Dermatology for the Equine Practitioner is a new title in the “Made Easy Series”. It is a practical guide to the diagnosis and treatment of equine skin diseases – a small, easy to use, soft cover book to be carried in a veterinary mobile unit. There are three sections. The first section deals with obtaining a good history, the dermatologic examination, appropriate diagnostic tests, and diagnostic trials. The second section outlines the approach to common equine dermatologic problems – pruritus, papules, pustules, crusts, nodules, and alopecia. The third section deals with treatment. This book could be recommended by diagnostic veterinary pathologists to clinicians submitting equine skin biopsies and skin cytology preparations. It includes a sample history questionnaire which would be very helpful to the pathologist reading skin samples, and good discussions on cytology and biopsy techniques. There are 84 color figures, 9 comprehensive tables, and multiple diagnostic diagrams which help the clinician develop a reasonable short list of differential diagnoses. The index is complete and easy to use. This book is not meant to be a comprehensive text on equine dermatology. The audience is the general equine practitioner and the book is very suitable for that audience.
