Abstract
Should we condemn or applaud an Internet forum in the northwest of England that is used by those who wish to pay for sex? This article suggests that such a site performs a ‘latent function’ in being helpful rather than harmful in the maintenance of order. Internet message sites can provide a supportive environment whereby the knowledge and, indeed, wisdom of experienced punters can be a useful resource. They have a vested interest in public order and will recognise what aspects of the parlour game may raise concerns amongst the police. Internet sites of this kind are best if they can remain in the public domain and are not hidden away behind membership doors.
