Abstract
Campus police and university administrators are facing an increased use of alcohol and other drugs by college students. In an effort to address these concerns, campus police are re-examining their policies and adopting flexible community-oriented strategies as well as reassessing methods to deal effectively with alcohol and drug usage. The results of the CORE Institute Center for Alcohol and Drug Studies Survey at a public four-year institution in eastern North Carolina were analysed to determine patterns and trends of alcohol and drug use. Specific recommendations are made for campus police departments to address the increased usage of alcohol and drugs on college campuses based upon the CORE findings and the prevention and intervention strategies utilised by other college and universities.
