This paper, the second in a series to be published in Primary Dental Care, addresses the issues of prescribing analgesics for children and the control of pain. It is crucial to remember that in infants and children, as in adults, pain, anxiety and fear are often associated. All concerned with the care of children have a duty to anticipate and avoid, as well as to relieve pain.1
