Abstract
In this paper I reflect on some topics discussed in this monograph about educational policy reforms and their impact on music education. Thus, I cope with issues related to the place music education has as part of the general curriculum (kindergarten, Primary and Secondary Education) and the specialised music education system (conservatoires and schools of music).
Major ideas provided could be summarised in the vindication of a value-based humanistic education as major contribution of the school music. I also claim for a reconsideration of the place the higher music education system takes place in the Spanish educational system. Finally, I suggest a redefinition of music teachers understand as music education.
