Abstract
As the popularity of youth sports has grown, so too has the need for qualified coaches. However, while multiple organizations have begun to offer, or even require, coaching education, more information is needed to fully understand how to best prepare and encourage youth sport coaches to obtain further education. Therefore, the purpose of this project was to explore coaches' preferences for continuing coaching education. Youth sport coaches were asked to indicate how helpful each of 15 continuing education topics would be to them as a coach on a scale from 1 (not at all helpful) to 5 (extremely helpful). Coaches were also asked to indicate their possible reasons and/or barriers towards pursuing advanced coaching education. Additionally coaches were asked questions assessing their personal beliefs on coaching education. Specifically coaches were asked if coaching education and certification should be mandatory. Practical implications for coaching educators are also discussed.
