Tests on twenty-one concrete filled steel tubes to investigate the influence of compaction methods on the strength of concrete filled steel tubular members are reported. Two parameters were investigated, including slenderness ratio and load eccentricity. It was found that better compaction of concrete resulted in higher values of the ultimate strength of concrete filled steel tubular members. The tests show the importance of good concrete compaction for concrete filled steel tubes.
