Abstract
Cranfield started life in 1946 as a graduate College of Aeronautics. In 1969 a royal charter was granted, which saw the name change to Cranfield Institute of Technology, and then in 1993 it became Cranfield University. Today it has a world-wide reputation as a centre of excellence in aviation. Its facilities include its own aircraft for flight-test operations and, through collaboration with Cranfield Aerospace Limited, the ability to design, build and fly aircraft. It also has relationships with leading aerospace and aviation companies worldwide.
