Abstract
The world's first disposable hearing aid is into its initial marketing phase in the USA. Developed by Songbird Hearing of Cranbury, New Jersey, the aid is used for about six weeks and binned when the batteries die. It is aimed at the baby boomers, the first generation to listen to excessively loud music. Songbird is not for the presbyacutic elderly, but for those with a medium, socially handicapping loss, who are probably still at work with a reasonable salary. International availability is scheduled for next year.
