Abstract
A data parallel fuzzy genetic algorithm is presented for cost optimization of large space steel structures subjected to commonly-used design codes such as the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) Allowable Stress Design (ASD) and Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) specifications. The algorithm is implemented on a distributed shared-memory multiprocessor, Origin 2000, using the OpenMP API (Application Programming Interface), and evaluated through application to two large space structures including a 144-storey moment resisting space building structure with more than 20,000 members.
