Kawasaki disease (KD) is characterized by persistent fever, mucous membrane
hyperaemia, cervical lymph node enlargement, exanthema and periungual desquamation.
It is seen mainly in children, with <60 cases reported in adults. We present the
case, the first to the best of our knowledge, of a 17-year-woman who developed KD
during the second trimester of pregnancy and died 47 days postpartum from cardiac
arrest due to acute myocardial infarction. The case, the medical history, the
clinical outcome and the postmortem findings are discussed, and we review the
literature on adult KD.
