Abstract
In April of this year a new organization, Barts Health NHS Trust, was launched in east London, merging Barts and the London NHS Trust (BLT), Newham University Hospital NHS Trust and Whipps Cross University Hospital NHS Trust. Recent reports suggest that many smaller trusts are considering merger or acquisition, 1 while reviewing how they can either become or remain successful Foundation Trusts. In this article I would like to describe some of my experience from the journey to the merger with particular relation to clinical risk, quality and patient safety.
