Abstract
Imaging plays an important factor in patient management in modern medicine. However this dependence on certain imaging modalities has increased the exposure of patients and indeed the general population to ionising radiation. The benefit of this increased use of modalities involving ionising radiation, comes at a potential cost as ionising radiation is well recognized as a potential cause of cancer. The risks of ionising radiation will be highlighted, as will strategies for minimizing that risk.
