Abstract
The relationship between the media and the medical profession is often one of mutual mistrust. However, the media, and especially television, is a powerful tool for telling individual stories and for providing a medium for medico-ethical dilemmas to be portrayed to a wide audience. The extent to which the use of individual narratives can or should influence public opinion about complex medical issues is examined in this paper from the perspective of a former television journalist with a postgraduate degree in medical law and ethics.
