Endosalpingiosis is a common, pathological finding with no symptoms. Histological differentiation of endosalpingiosis from malignancy can be a challenge to pathologists and hence potential for unwarranted surgical intervention exists.
Case
We report a case of endosalpingiosis with an unusual initial presentation of an abnormal cervical smear suggestive of adenocarcinoma. This finding was further supported by laparoscopic findings resembling ovarian carcinoma, hence leading to major surgical intervention. The final pathology revealed no evidence of neoplastic changes.
Conclusion
Greater awareness of endosalpingiosis and its masquerading features is needed to avoid unnecessary surgical interventions.
