Abstract
Mismanagement of perineal trauma may have major adverse impact on a woman's health. Unrecognized trauma to the external anal sphincter or anatomically incorrect approximation of wounds can lead to dyspareunia, discontentment with the cosmetic appearance of the perineum, urinary and anal incontinence, and related psychological and social problems. This article explores the pitfalls in the management of obstetric-related perineal trauma and describes the principles of good management.
