Abstract
The use of an automatic weighing system in animal experiments is described. With this system the animal needs to remain still for only 0.5 second; the whole operation of weighing and recording bodyweight and food intake of a rat takes about 16 seconds. The cost of the equipment spread over normal working hours for 5 years is about 5p per hour.
