Abstract
The average lifespan of the Wistar strain rats maintained at the Institute was found to be shorter now than it was 20 years ago, particularly in the case of the males. Supplementation of the diet with extra protein (skimmed milk powder or dried yeast) further reduced the lifespan of the males, but increased that of the females.
