Abstract
The predominant organism in the lower intestine of the rabbit has been characterized and shown to be a Bacteroides sp. Diets which had a marked effect on the plasma cholesterol levels of rabbits failed to produce any detectable changes in the bacteroides population or in any of the other groups of intestinal bacteria examined.
