Abstract
A new 'burning iron' device for the experimental production of contact burns in laboratory animals is described. It allows for a constant surface area to be treated at a controlled temperature. The burns can therefore be reproduced from animal to animal and from laboratory to laboratory, and the graded effects of temperature can be satisfactorily studied. The device is simple to assemble and operate, and safe to handle.
