Abstract
This paper demonstrates the potential of a newly developed fluoride glass fibre for near infrared (NIR) light fibre spectroscopy. The measurement of a power spectrum using this fibre, on a Fourier transform (FT)-NIR spectrophotometer, reveals that the fibre shows excellent transmission characteristics in the 1000–2500 nm region. FT-NIR spectra in the 1000–2500 nm region have been measured for palmitic acid, potassium ferricyanide, silicone grease and sugar by using the fluoride glass fibre. The obtained spectra and their second derivatives show a high signal-to-noise ratio at least up to 2500 nm.
